5 Indispensable Mountain Biking Gear

August 09, 2017

Mountain biking is currently trending among bikers- especially the ones who desire to experience something new; a breakaway from the conventional. One thing that is however certain is that mountain biking is a different ball game altogether and that's exactly what these bikers love to experience- the adventure of riding through an elevated landscape. But with this desire, comes a high probability of crashing aground as the biker aims to transit the rough terrain. And this is why every mountain biker needs to use certain protective gear before embarking on such rides. Hence, I will be highlighting some of the essential gear right about now:

Full-face Helmet

Starting from the top; a full-face helmet is what you need in order to be protected from head and facial injuries. Whichever one you will be going for should be lightweight and comfortable to use. Specialized's dissident full-face helmet and Giro's remedy full-face helmet are good choices.

Shin Guard

Crashing on a rough terrain such as a mountain's could leave you with painful bruises on your shin. So, it is necessary to kit up with an appropriate pair of shin guard that would not be heavy [while offering commendable protection] on your leg as you ride through the height. The shin guard should be complemented with a pair of knee pad. G-Form has about the best sets of shin guard on offer in the market; POC also has a cool collection of knee pads. Coupled with these, a pair of elbow/forearm pad should also be worn.

Gloves

Maintaining a firm grip on the handlebar is a necessity as you bump through the mountains, and failure to have a good source of protective covering [for your hands] could leave you with blisters or even worse, cuts upon crashing. A pair of gloves should suffice to curtail this.

Bib Shorts

Considering the fact that mountain bikers could be prone to hip injuries after a crash, it is essential that they put on bib shorts- this would provide some sort of (padding) safeguard for the hips. The Paragon Bib short designed by Alpinestars is a massive gear to own: aside from the hip padding, it also features a back protector, an ample of storage pockets and also gives room for hydration pack.

Crash Sensor

Let's assume the ride eventually went awry with your back- or maybe face- to the ground in an unconscious state, and there is no one around to render you immediate help. Then, a crash sensor [which would alert the appropriate (response unit) quarters via SMS] could serve a life-saving purpose, and you should not do without one as you go biking on the mountain.
