Bicycle Safety Equipment

August 09, 2017

Biking accidents appear to be on the rise, and some of these accidents have, on certain occasions, resulted in casualties. But most of these accidents might have been avoided had the cyclist used the right kind of gear. Several safety equipment have been developed, and some of these include:

Bicycle Horn

Since you, as a cyclist, will be riding on the road where other commuters- and pedestrians alike- are plying; having [and using] a horn mounted on the bicycle will serve to inform others about your presence even when they cannot see you.

Mirrors

Mirrors should not just be for cars alone; sideview mirrors are useful additions [to the bicycle] that will enlighten the cyclist about what is obtainable in the surrounding environment in which he/she rides. This could eventually help to avert dangers to a great extent.

Reflective Clothing

Statistics shows that the rate at which biking accidents occur during the nighttime is much higher than daytime. Therefore, it is only logical that cyclists [who ride at night] put on some forms of reflective attire so that other road users can be aware of their presence.

Turn-signal Gloves

The 'turn-signal' gloves are not like any other kind of gloves; they have inbuilt lighting that indicates the direction of your turns to other road users- they are made to function like a car's indicators. And they are quite necessary when manoeuvring through a winding road.

Headlight and Taillight

These will further enhance visibility during night ride. With these, the cyclist is able to see- and be seen by- other road users clearly.
